Pentax is a company founded in Tokyo, Japan in 1919. Originally, this company was called the Asahi Kogaku Goshi Kausha which was later on named Ashai Optical in 1939. During those times the company manufactured cameras and camera lenses. After the World War, the company was suspended for a few years until it started producing again in 1948.
In 1952, the first of the Pentax Digital Cameras was released. The Asahiflex camera is the first 35mm camera ever produced by a Japanese manufacturer. In 2002, Asahi was named Pentax, and it wasn’t after a few years later that Pentax began working with Samsung in their camera lines. In 2005, Pentax and Samsung released the Single Lens Reflex Digital Cameras, and other related products.
However in 2008, Pentax had a merger with Hoya Corporation of Japan, but retaining Pentax as the brand name until now.
